How to transfer emails between two Gmail accounts

Recently, a friend of mine created a new Gmail account that included her full name instead of a generic screen name she had been using for the last several months. She called me up and ask me how she could move emails from one Gmail account to another.

After fiddling around with it a bit, I figured it out and it’s not very hard. Of course, it would be cool if Gmail just had a button called Import that let you connect to your old Gmail account and import all the emails, but it’s not that simple.

In order to move emails from one Gmail account to another, you have to follow the steps below:

Step 1: First, log into the old email account (current one you are using) and click on Settings, then Forwarding and POP and choose Enable POP for all mail. Make sure to click Save Changes at the bottom.

Step 2: Now log into the new email account and click on Settings again. Then click on Accounts and click the Add a mail account you own link.

Step 3: Now type in the old Gmail email address into the text box and click Next.

Step 4: Now type in the password for the old email account and choose pop.gmail.com from the POP Server drop down list. Click Add Account.

Step 5: Next you’ll be asked if you want to be able to send email as oldaddress@gmail.com. This is useful if you want the mail to come into the new account, but be able to respond using the old email address.

Step 6: Type in your name for the old email address and choose whether you want the reply address to be the old address or you can optionally change it to the new one, which is a good idea so that people will eventually stop writing to the old address.

Step 7: Finally, you will have to verify that you actually own the old email address by clicking the Send Verification button. You can then log into your old email account and copy the confirmation code in the email. Paste that into the appropriate box. Click Verify.

Step 8: Now just sit back and watch all your emails get imported into the new Gmail account. If you have a lot of emails, it could take several hours, so be patient!

How to convert a PDF file to Word, Excel or JPG format

Update: There’s a much easier way to convert a PDF to JPG image format than the method I have mentioned below. Here’s how you can do it using Zamzar.com.

Convert a PDF file to JPG - Easy Way

Go to ZamZar.com, browse for your file and choose PNG format for the format to conver to under Step 2. PNG is another newer picture format that is slowly replacing the JPG format. Most programs that can open JPG files can open PNG. Zamzar automatically converts each page in the PDF document into it’s own PNG picture file. Now you can simply open Microsoft Paint (yes, all you need it Paint!) and choose File - Save As from the menu and choose JPEG from the drop down list of formats.

Convert PDF to JPG Format - Second Way

The first thing you’ll need to do is download a free software (the only one I could find) that converts PDF documents to JPEG image format automatically. Go to the Omniformat download page and download both Omniformat v8.3 and the PDF995 app. You will need to download and install PDF995 first before installing Omniformat. Once you have both programs installed, go to your Start Menu programs, find the program group Software995 and click on Omniformat.

The only annoying thing about this program is that it requires you to view some ads for about 30 seconds! However, it’s better than paying $20 or $40 for a program just to do a simple conversion! It does pop up another instance of your browser window for the web site of each of the sponsors, but it does not install any spyware onto your computer (no popup ads). Once the program is loaded, you’ll see it has a section called “Watch Folders” and then a button at the bottom titled “Start Monitoring” and “Single Pass“.

Basically the way it works is that you need to COPY the PDF files you want to convert to JPG format to the C:\omniformat\watch folder and then press Single Pass. The program will look in that directory and convert each page of each PDF into a separate JPG file. If you click Start Monitoring, you can keep dropping PDFs into that folder and the program will automatically convert them into JPGs as long as the program is open. Note that the program DELETES the original PDF document that it uses, so that’s why you need to COPY the PDF document to the watch folder, not move it! You should now see your converted files like below:

Convert your PDF to a Word document

Go to Zamzar.com and click the Browse button next to Step 1 and choose your file. By default, Step 2 will be set to DOC format, but you can choose to convert your PDF to other file types such as TXT, HMTL, RTF, etc. Type in your email address for Step 3 and click Convert.

You should receive an email within a few minutes with a download link to your converted file. I have tried out this service on some pretty complex PDF documents with text in multiple columns, multiple images, etc and have been very impressed with it’s conversion accuracy.

Convert a PDF file to Excel format

We will again follow the steps above using Zamzar, but this time choose TXT as the format you want to convert to. Unfortunately, you can’t convert straight to Excel format, so we’ll have to go through the intermediary TXT format. Once you have downloaded the TXT file and saved it on your computer, open Microsoft Excel and go to File - Open and change the Files of Type combo box to All Files.

Now you should see the converted text file in the list of files. Choose it and click Open. You’ll now be brought to the Text Import Wizard. You have to open the file in this manner because if you simply right-click and say Open With Excel, all of the text for each row will appear in the first column and not be separated.

For Step 1, choose Delimited from the two options listed.

Click Next and check off the Space checkbox as one of the delimiters. Each value should now be separated by a vertical line, indicating it’s going to be in a separate column.

Click Next and then click Finish. You can now save the file as an Excel file by going to File - Save As. There are a few drawbacks, however, as this conversion does not always work perfectly! For example, if the original Excel sheet had a column where there was text with spaces included, each word will be separated into it’s own column! Also, you won’t see any formulas or functions that may have been in the original Excel sheet, only the text.

It’s as easy as that! You can use many other image editing programs also such as Photoshop, Corel, etc, etc, but I chose Paint because that is universally available on just about every Windows computer.

How to configure Gmail on Microsoft Outlook

The following steps will explain about configuring gmail on Microsoft Outlook. First you have to enable POP for gmail Email ID.

Enabling POP

You can retrieve your Gmail messages with a client or device that supports POP, like Microsoft Outlook or Netscape Mail.

To enable POP in Gmail:

1. Sign in to Gmail.

2. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.

3. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.

4. Select Enable POP for all mail or Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.

5. Choose the action you’d like your Gmail messages to take after they are accessed with POP.

6. Configure your POP client* and click Save Changes.

Follow the instructions below to set up POP access in Outlook 2007

To configure Outlook 2007 for your Gmail address:

1. Enable pop , Don’t forget to click Save Changes when you’re done.

2. Open Outlook.

3. Click the Tools menu, and select Account Settings…

4. On the E-mail tab, click New…

5. If you are prompted to Choose E-mail Service, select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP, and click Next.

6. Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:Your Name: Enter your name as you would like it to appear in the From: field of outgoing messages.

Email Address: Enter your full Gmail email address (username@gmail.com). Google Apps users, enter your full address in the format username@your_domain.com.

Password: Enter your email password.

Manually configure server settings or additional server types: Leave this option unchecked if you want to automatically configure Outlook 2007. If you want to manually configure Outlook 2007, check this box now. Google Apps users should configure manually as follows.

7. Click Next. If you are configuring Outlook 2007 automatically, you’re done! Just click Finish.

8. If you are configuring Outlook 2007 manually, select Internet E-mail and click Next.

9. Verify your User Information, and enter the following additional information:Server Information

Account Type: POP3

Incoming mail server: pop.gmail.com (Google Apps users, enter the server names provided, don’t add your domain name in these steps)

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com

Logon Information

User Name: Enter your Gmail username (including @gmail.com). Google Apps users, enter your full address in the format username@your_domain.com

Password: Enter your email password.

Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): Leave this option unchecked.

10. Click the More Settings… button, and select the Outgoing Server tab.

11. Check the box next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

12. Click the Advanced tab, and check the box next to This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) under Incoming Server (POP3).

13. In the Outgoing server (SMTP) box, enter 587, and select TLS from the drop-down menu next to Use the following type of encrypted connection:

15. Click Test Account Settings… After receiving ‘Congratulations! All tests completed successfully’, click Close.

Fix Common Computer Network Issues

Are you experiencing problems with your computer network? Are these error messages appearing?:

* Unable to clear the DNS cache
* Unable to renew your IP address
* An operation was performed on something that is not a socket
* Unable to clear the ARP cache

If so, here are some potential solutions for Windows XP/Vista.

1. Check to make sure your computer is on and is connected to a network.

2. Be aware that Windows has a built in function to repair a network connection. This function can give valuable information in the form of an error message if you know what you are looking for. Some common error messages given are:

* Unable to clear the DNS cache
* Unable to renew your IP address
* Unable to clear the ARP cache

3. Deal with a message that states “Unable to clear the DNS cache.” When you get the message “Unable to clear the DNS cache”, this usually means that the DNS client service has been disabled. Follow these steps as an administrator to re-enable it:

* Open the Services MMC plugin, located under Administrative Tools in the Control Panel;
* Find the “DNS Client” service in the list presented and enter it’s properties by double-clicking it;
* Change the Startup Type from Disabled to Manual or Automatic then click apply;
* Either reboot or click “Start” to start the service;
* Verify by attempting to repair the connection again.

4. Fix a problem related to an IP address. If the repair process reports that it has been ‘Unable to obtain an IP address’, it is probable that more information can be obtained through the command line. Open a Command Prompt by going to Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt, then type ‘ipconfig /renew’ to attempt to obtain an IP address from the command line.

5. Follow up the error messages that will likely appear. There is a high likelihood of an error message similar to the one below occurring, the remainder of the guide will focus on this error.

* “An operation was performed on something that is not a socket”

6. Fix the error message “An operation was performed on something that is not a socket.”: This is a Winsock corruption generally due to spyware. The fixes are:

* A simple fix can be done with Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista (Start > Run > cmd > netsh winsock reset), then reboot your computer. If you do not have SP2, you can download a small program to reinstall Winsock: winsockfix.exe.

Install Windows XP On Windows Vista Without Formatting Hard Drive

In this post we are going to share with you the experience we had while trying to Install Windows XP on new laptop which has Windows Vista and how we achieved it virtually.

I bought a HP Pavallion notebook which had Windows Vista, and first thing I wanted was to make it dual boot with Windows Vista and Windows XP. I studied a lot of articles on Internet for installing Windows XP on new laptop. So I did a spilt-streaming of SATA drivers and Windows XP onto a same CD using nLite tool. The CD was able to start the setup, but as soon as the system restarted between, all was gone, it neither booted again with XP setup nor it had Vista on boot-loader anymore.

Finally I was back to face this reality that these new pieces of hardware are not happy to run Windows XP because of driver issues and other compatibility problems. I was disappointed with this for a week or so, after which I realized that we can do a Virtual Install with a tool from Microsoft. This tool is called Virtual PC, so I will tell you how I Installed Windows XP on Windows Vista without any trouble.

Fix:

The good part about Virtual PC is that its a Virtual Environment within your running Windows Vista operating system, this means that you need not create a separate partition for it, you need not worry about boot-loader and other problems, and it is very convenient to Install and problem free.

For this, you need to download and install Virtul PC on your computer. Download Virtual PC here.

After you download and install Virtual PC from Microsoft, run the virual PC, on this you can now create a virtual Window XP machine. We will give you detailed steps one by one as below:

- Run the Virtual PC and click on New Button

- This will launch a new virtual machine wizard like one below

- Now Give it a name, any name u like, I gave it Windows XP machine

- Select Windows XP on this screen from the list of OS

- Now select the memory or RAM which you want windows XP to use, if you have more than 2GB RAM on your computer, select about 500 MB for this virtual machine. This is the amount of RAM out of your total RAM which will be used for running Windows XP in virtual Environment.

- Now Select to create a new Virtual hard disk. Good thing is that, this will be created inside a file, and that file will be of only that much space, as is in use, not the free space part.

- Now select the path or the virtual hard disk and size, we recommend minimum of 5000 MB, you can give any size, 100000MB would be good and enough for most cases.

- This Completes half-job! Virtual Environment is created, now you can install Windows XP on it, how? Well, not difficult, just read on.

- After you create this machine, you will see the machine name in the list, click on machine name, and click start. this will launch the virtual environment.

- Now you will need a Windows XP CD or ISO and a valid Windows XP Serial Number. In this window, click on CD and select the CD path. After this step, just press enter on this screen, and see the magic ! Windows XP installation will start on this virtual machine.

- Windows XP setup launches

Make Windows XP Shutdown Faster

1. This step is very important.

Download Unlimited from Rapidshare without paying

I knew a lot of us here use Rapidshare to download and share a lot of stuff. It's quite annoying when we were unable to download for a certain period after downloading a big file. What are going to be shared to day is how to download from Rapidshare using proxy so that you won't have to face the 1 hour limitation problem again.

The programs that we need are a browser with ability to use proxy. I use Slimbrowser for two reasons:

1) I don't want to delete my Firefox or IE cache and cookies files.

2) It's very lite and not a resource hogger

Steps:

1. Download the browser from this location. Install it.
2. Get a proxy list here. This trick requires the usage of proxy server to work. So don't skip this step. Grab one proxy or more!
3. This is how you are going to setup your proxy

:Click Tools > Proxies > Organize Proxies

- In the Name field, enter something to identify your proxy, for example, Brazil #1
- In the first address field, enter the proxy address you got from Proxy4Free,
for example, 200.162.195.62
- In the second address field, enter the proxy port, for example, 3128
- If you want to set the entered proxy as the default proxy, then click the
Set As Current Proxy button
- Click OK to close the dialog box

* If you want to add more proxies, repeat the steps above again and again.

4. After you have setup the proxy, copy and paste the Rapidshare download link to your
browsers’ address bar, and wait for the Rapidshare page to launch.

5. In Rapidshare website, do the followings:

- Press enter and scoll down to bottom and click the FREE button

- Wait until the counter reaches zero or use any auto-reveal-link-utility
- Copy paste the download link into your favorite download manager, for
example, Flashget
- Download the file happily

Troubleshooting

Note that if Rapidshare gives you error like this;

This IP is not allowed to use free anonymous services.. or Your IP, xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is downloading a file…

It's time to use another proxy!!! In Slimbrowser, go to menu, Tools > Proxies and select another proxy you already entered before

6) After downloading a file, don’t forget to clear your trace!

In Slimbrowser go to menu Tools > Internet Options to open the Internet Options applet
Click both Delete Cookies and Delete Files button to wipe out all references to Rapidshare. If you need to download more files, repeat all steps from 1 to 6, and hopefully you’ll be happier than ever.

Adware is software that displays advertisements on your computer by way of such things as pop-up windows.

Why is it used?

It is programmed into software packages to help the creators recover their development costs.

How does it affect you?

One of the primary purposes of installing Adware is to allow individuals to spy on a user's browsing activities. Essentially, your personal information may be put at risk leading to identity theft, computer viruses and slow computer capabilities.

What to do?

Look into an Adware removal program. There are ways to do this yourself, but it requires quite a bit of time and research to make sure you're doing it properly. Also, if you perform these tasks yourself you must be careful. Be sure to read all terms of agreement with your software packages to ensure you're not violating the terms of use by removing the adware codes.

There are also free programs out there, but they do not have the capabilities of warning you of potential danger. I suggest using a low-cost program that's already in use. If you do proper research then you are sure to find a product that you are comfortable with. Deciding which program to use is the hardest part. There are movements in progress to make laws against adware and spyware, but you really need to take action yourself. Too much damage can occur in the time it takes the lawmakers to take solid action. Once you make your decision the program will take care of the rest.

ONE: Surprisingly Handy Keyboard Shortcuts

Google Chrome offers some unique shortcuts that go beyond the typical CTRL + T for opening new browser tabs. Here is a link to all of Google Chrome keyboard shortcuts. And here three that I find unique, when compared to those offered by Firefox and IE.

CTRL + SHIFT + N automatically opens up a Chrome 'incognito' window which allows you to surf on a PC without leaving behind any digital footprints.

SHIFT + Escape allows for fast access to Chrome?s Task Manager utility that allows you to nix browser processes that have gone awry.

CTRL + SHIFT + T will open recently closed browser tabs.

TWO: Custom Searches

When you want to run a search directly from Google's address bar (a.k.a. Omnibox) just type a question mark (?) followed by a keyword. The default search engine is Google. To change the default search engine to anything you want go right-click inside the address bar and select "Edit search engines." You can choose from a predefined list, or create your own.

Here is how to create your own shortcut to search the site of your choice directly from Google Chrome's Omnibox.

1) Right-click inside address bar and select "Edit search engines."
2) With that dialogue box remaining open, now go to a website you would like to create a custom search for. For the sake of example try Dictionary.com
3) Once you visit the site now look at your "Search Engines" configuration window and you'll notice under the "Other search engines" field Dictionary.com has been added.
4) Next you'll want to change the "Keyword" to something short and easy to remember such as DIC.

Now when you want to look up a word at Dictionary.com all you have to do is type in Chrome's Omnibox "DIC" proceeded by the word you want to look up.

Type about:internets into the address bar and you'll see a tribute to United States Senator Ted Stevens' take on the Internet. (This only works in Windows XP)

FOUR: Larger Comment Boxes

Comment boxes on Web sites soliciting feedback can sometimes be way too small. With Chrome you simply click on the corner of any Web-based comment field and stretch it out as large as you like.

FIVE: Help Direct Me Home, Please

I appreciate Google Chrome's minimalist approach to design that leaves the interface clutter-free. But without a Home button Chrome feels a bit like a house with no front door. To regain the Home button on your browser simply go to the wrench icon, select the Google Chrome Options, click on the Basics tab, and check the "Show Home button on the Toolbar" box.

SIX: Fun With Tabs

Browser tabs are an incredibly useful feature in browsers today. Google has spent some time and made them even more useful by allowing more tab flexibility than is currently possible with IE or Firefox. Chrome allows you to peel browser tabs off a browser so they can become their own browser window. Chrome also allows you to take two separate Chrome browsers and drag them together creating one window with two tabs.

SEVEN: More Privacy Please

As privacy issues continue to swirl around Google new concerns have been raised regarding Google's Chrome browser. According to reports Google's auto-suggest (featured in the Chrome browser Omnibar) allows Google to know everything you type into it ? even if you don't hit enter. CNET's Ina Fried suggests you disable the feature.

To disable the auto-suggest feature right-click inside the Omnibar and un-check the "Use a suggestion service to help complete searches."

EIGHT: Go Incognito on the Fly

Not sure what awaits you when you contemplate clicking on that link? If you want to make sure your Web tracks are covered just right-click the link and select "Open link in incognito window."

NINE: No Google Toolbar for Google Chrome, No Problem

Former PC World Editor in Chief, Harry McCracken, has been bemoaning the ironic fact Google Chrome doesn't support the handy Google Toolbar at his Technologizer Web site. The Google Toolbar, available for IE and Firefox, bring much versatility to the browser including a shortcut to Gmail, access to online Google Bookmarks, a spell checker, and the ability to send URL links via e-mail in just a few clicks.

McCracken explains he has found a way to create an approximation to the Google Toolbar by tweaking Google Chrome with a technique he calls "Project Fakebar." For those with idle time, head on over to the Technologizer site and find out how to put a Fakebar on your Chrome Browser.

TEN: Enable Firefox to Run More Like Chrome

My last tip and tweak isn't absolutely Chrome-centric, rather Chrome related. For those who like the innovative new features Chrome offers, but aren't happy with some of the bugs, security, and privacy issues you can have your cake and eat it too.

Google Chrome Hidden Tips Trick

Here are some not-so-obvious things you can do in Google Chrome, the minimalistic browser launched on Tuesday.

1. Show the list of recently visited pages from the current tab: right-click on the "Back" button. This also works for the "Forward" button.

2. Undo closing a tab: press Ctrl+Shift+T or open a new tab and check the "Recently closed tabs" section.

3. Focus on the default search option in the address bar: type ? before entering your query.

4. Perform simple calculations and unit conversions using Google Calculator by simply typing the expression in Google Chrome's address bar (or "omnibox"). To copy the answer, select the suggestion.

5. If you need more space in a textarea, resize it by dragging the lower right corner.

6. Monitor the resources used by a web page - right click inside the page, select "Inspect element", switch to the "Resources" tab and reload the web page. You'll see a list of images, scripts and objects loaded from the web page and you can sort them by size or by loading time.

7. Detach a tab and open it in a new window - just drag the tab outside the active window. You can also add it back to the original window using drag and drop.

8. After downloading a file, you can copy it to the desktop or to any other folder by using drag and drop directly from Google Chrome.

9. If the search engine of a site supports OpenSearch, you can add it to Google Chrome's search box by simply visiting the site and performing a search. The domain name automatically becomes a keyword and you should only type the first letters from the URL until you see "press Tab to search example.com". Then press Tab and type your query.

You can also manually add search engines, by right-clicking on the address bar and selecting "Edit search engines". Here's one example, where you can see that you need to find the URL for the search results page and replace the query with %s:

Keyword - wiki (that's what you need to type in the address bar)
URL - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=%s

You can also use the keywords for other kinds of services: for translating web pages, for bookmarking pages online or simply as aliases for web pages (omit "%s" from the URL).

10. Do you want Google Chrome without Google's branding and with an open source license (BSD license)? Check Chromium, the open source project created for Google Chrome. You can install the latest snapshots for Windows or download the code and build it in Windows, Mac, Linux.

To install Chromium in Windows, go to the most recent directory from this page (it should be at the top) and download mini_installer.exe. Note that these snapshots could be less stable than the version available at google.com/chrome and you may need to manually update Chromium.

How To Hide Files With Notepad

Another Old but great Notepad trick, not exactly notepad one but the Windows one. I can't add a big intro of this method just try it out.

1. Open Command Prompt. Start --> Run --> CMD

2. Get to the directory Where you want to save the hidden file.

CD --> to Change Directory
MD --> to make Directory

once done. proceed further

3. Type down following command.

notepad:filename.txt:hidefilename.txt

yes we are creating two files.

4. error pops up Cannot find filename.txt:hidefilename.txt, Do you want to create ??
obviously yes

5. Type your message to hide and save and close.

You have done the hiding task. Lets check did it worked or not. Visit the folder with your windows explorer. Oh man theres only one file named filename.txt where the hell is hidefilename.txt is ??? its hidden. Lets open Filename.txt (to check your message ), This file is blank !! Party but where is the hidden text ?? its in Hidefilename.txt You can type any text in open notepad file. it will be saved in filename.txt. and using command prompt, notepad filename.txt:hidefilename.txt will give you hidden file.

Well thats simple and sweet from Windows.

Announcing Windows Server 2008 R2 Beta!

Oliver Rist, Technical Product Manager for Windows Server Marketing, announced availability of Windows Server 2008 R2 Beta on Windows Server Division Weblog :

For homo sapiens, getting older is painful. Take me for example. Nine hours on a plane never bothered me when I was in my 20s with a rubber backbone. But a couple of weeks out from birthday # 43 and one cross-country airplane ride translates into a sudden spinal meltdown that has me lying in bed, rigid as a vampire, popping painkillers like Christmas chocolates.

Fortunately, it’s not the same thing for software. In the life of Windows Server, today marks general availability of public beta for the new Windows Server 2008 R2-and, for me personally, I’ve never had my geeky mitts on a better version. The new release incorporates a host of new features and capabilities that I hope you’ll check out; the code is as stable a beta as I’ve ever seen and combined with the beta of Windows 7 you’ll be able to evaluate not just a bevy of new server-side capabilities, but a new level of synergy between server and client operating systems, too.

A quick recap of my favorite highlights:

* While the Windows 7 client is available in both x86 and x64 versions, Windows Server 2008 R2 is Microsoft’s first 64-bit only OS. It also supports up to 256 logical processors, which opens up a whole new world of enterprise-class back-end processing power.
* Your existing servers will run faster, too, because Windows Server 2008 R2 takes advantage of the latest CPU architecture enhancements. You’ll also get significant power management improvements via features like Core Parking.
* Hyper-V in R2 now has Live Migration, allowing IT admins to move VMs across physical hosts with no interruption of service or network connectivity and significant network performance improvements. VMs in Hyper-V for R2 also get greater access to physical resources, namely support for 32 logical processors. It all adds up to the most flexible virtual data center in Microsoft’s history.
* Check out PowerShell 2.0. Next to Live Migration, “more PowerShell” is the most consistent customer request we’ve had from Windows Server 2008. So, you’ll find over 240 new cmdlets out of the box along with new dev tools for building your own cmdlets that are not only more robust, but easier, too. The new PowerShell is so powerful, we’re starting to build GUI-based management consoles that are based entirely on PowerShell in the background-check out the new Active Directory Administrative Center for starters.
* RDS is another big-time update. What used to be called Terminal Services has now evolved into Remote Desktop Services with the R2 release. Key in RDS is the new Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), which allows you to centralize Windows desktops in the data center as virtual machines in addition to the traditional session-based remote desktop model we all know and love from Terminal Services. But VDI is only one new feature in RDS. Others include better end-user fidelity with features like true multiple monitor support and high-end audio and video so you’ve got more breadth in the kinds of applications you can centralize. And the new RemoteApp and Desktop connections feature integrates tightly enough with Windows 7 that users of the new desktop OS won’t need to practically differentiate between what’s local and what isn’t. It all runs off the Start menu.

And speaking of Windows 7…Windows Server 2008 R2 is a powerful upgrade to any Windows Server data center all by itself. But in combination with Windows 7 on the client side you’ll enter a whole new world of manageability and productivity:
o DirectAccess makes remote access ubiquitous (I’m nuts about this one),
o BranchCache can improve file retrieval at branch offices while simultaneously decreasing WAN bandwidth costs,
o New Group Policy objects allow deeper control of client desktop management, including access, system monitoring and even physical resources like power management,
o You’ll be able to manage and keep data safe even on removable drives by using BitLocker to Go.
